Diamond Creek State Recreation Area / 2 trail systems
Diamond Creek ocean access trail- maintained by State Parks - 0.6 mile - one way
Bike and Hike Trails - maintained by Homer Cycling Club - up to 6 miles of connecting trails that wind around through the woods along the TOP of the bluff
Access: approximately 6 or 7 miles north of Homer, turn left off the Sterling Highway onto the bumpy dirt unmarked road just past Diamond Ridge Road.
Two Parking Areas:
1. Upper parking lot located on the left, after turning in from Sterling Highway.
2. Lower parking lot, one mile down the very bumpy unmaintained dirt road. 4 wheel drive /high clearance recommended (road closed in the winter)
Upper parking lot- access the wonderful bike/hike trails that meander through the woods along the bluff - all built and maintained by Homer Cycling Club. It is not flat - be prepared for going downhill for several miles and the return is all uphill to get back to the upper lot. These bike, hike trails continue beyond the lower parking lot and cross the Diamond Creek ocean access trail and then continue to the end of the bluff offering more beautiful views. You can access the bike /hike trails from lower lot too. Please be aware of cyclists and move to side of trail to let them pass. These are some of the best designed and driest trails in Homer.
Lower parking lot is where the Trailhead for Diamond Creek ocean access Trail begins. You can also hike down to the lower parking lot via the dirt road or via the bike/ hike trails thru the woods that meander down the hill from the upper lot. The ocean access trail begins with crushed-rock surface, but it soon becomes narrow & washed out, with abrupt edges and high drop offs (use caution), trail surface is blue clay that is slick when wet. Mud slides change the shape of the trail each year and sometimes it is temporarily closed due to large slides that cover the trail. Rain increases the chance of mud slides. Use caution when hiking down this trail to the ocean and keep away from the edges.
